Happy New Year!

It has been over a year since I have last published. Sometimes, one needs a break to focus on nurturing, healing, and of course just being.

2017 was quite an emotional rollercoaster. The type of pitch black rollercoaster that gives you thrills and chills within a heartbeat. In January, I gave birth in a fury of excitement to a healthy baby boy, without drugs and all within an hour of being at the hospital. Three months later, I found out I had a rare adenoid cystic carcinoma in my trachea, which had been growing for years. Over the next four months, I had it removed with a tracheal resection and 6 weeks of radiation. Lots of hospital visits and recovery time between these events.

I truly believe that my change in lifestyle and diet allowed for my body to create a healthy little human while fighting cancer. I also believe the cancer attributed to my loss of our son the year prior. If anything, this experience has left me in awe of the human body. If we nourish it, give it rest and love, it can fight and thrive and above all… beat the odds. When I first found out I had cancer, I almost drowned in the dismal survival rate statistics. Then, with the strength of my husband, family and friends, I thought about what my body already accomplished and I realized this was just another obstacle to hurdle, another challenge to slay.

2018 may have more challenges and hurdles, but I plan to make each day count. I have been inspired by so many that have fought cancer and made their lives better for it. I can not go so far as to say this was a blessing, as I do not believe that to be the case. But I will say it was a wake up call to appreciate every day I am given and to have purpose by helping others to live their healthiest lives.
